Event Details

2 CPD hours for LKM licensed counsellors.

Introduction

Profession development is an on-going and continuous process throughout a person’s career. Professional counselors in most countries are required to demonstrate participation in continued education for their licensure and credentialing renewals.

However, licensure and credentialing bodies generally do not provide guidance on how professionals should go about planning or charting their professional development. There is also a lack of discourse in the literature and among practitioners on what and how professional development should look like for counsellors.

Generally, continued education on professional ethics is a “must have” for any licensure and credentialing renewals. The presenter of this workshop believes that counselors will greatly benefit from maintaining a systematic and wholistic approach to their professional development and practice within the scope of current professional ethical standards.

Workshop participants will learn to use Bronfenbrenner’s ecosystemic framework to achieve professional competence, growth, and satisfaction.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify various aspects of professional development expected of counsellors.
  2. Identify the benefits of approaching professional development systematically and wholistically.
  3. Identify principles underlying current professional counseling code of ethics.
  4. Examine Bronfenbrenner’s ecosystem theory and apply it to professional development and understanding of ethical standards that guide the practice of counseling.
  5. Develop a multisystemic plan to guide their professional development and practice.
