It is almost impossible to be disconnected from internet as we live in an age where many activities and transactions are done through mobile devices and computers.
While paying bills, ordering food, socializing with friends and doing research have been helpful, many adolescents and young children are digitally distracted and addicted to gaming and social media. Internet addiction is becoming world-wide concerning issue among the current and future generation.
China and South Korea have categorized Internet Addiction as significant public health threat. On the local front, a 2017 survey found that about 40% of Malaysian teenagers are addicted to the internet, spending an average period of more than 4 hours daily for either gaming or social media.
This workshop will help counsellors, lay leaders and people-helpers to understand the causes of gaming and social media addiction and the necessary steps to prevent and address this problem. The workshop will also help participants explore the severity, the age and the personality of addicted individuals in order to devise the appropriate approach.
