Event Details
Malaysia has recently been shaken by the tragic death of Zara Qairina in Sabah, linked to bullying in her school dormitory, and the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student in Selangor. These cases remind us that trauma is not only found in war zones or disasters abroad, but also in our own schools, homes, and communities.
Beyond these headlines, many Malaysians quietly carry trauma from domestic violence, sexual abuse, recurring floods, or the lingering effects of the pandemic. Children and youth are at risk, marriages are suffering, and families are under strain. Such experiences can leave survivors struggling with daily life, while loved ones often feel unprepared to support them.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
This workshop equips participants to walk alongside trauma survivors with compassion and wisdom. Through biblical insight, psychological understanding, and practical tools, you will learn how to provide care, support resilience, safeguard your own well-being, and know when to make professional referrals.
✨ In these uncertain times, let us become safe, compassionate presences who bring light and hope into places of pain.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature of crisis and trauma, and their impact on individuals, families, marriages, and communities.
- Recognize symptoms of trauma-related stress and identify appropriate local resources for help.
- Develop strategies for self-care before, during, and after supporting survivors, to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue.
- Apply simple trauma-informed care skills and know when and how to refer survivors for professional intervention.
